Turning Points

Turning Points; Ch. 5; page 149

Our text describes turning points using students as examples, as well as from employees' perceptions. I would have to say that I haven't yet achieved a turning point in my employment career yet, but I can definitely describe a turning point in my hockey career...
The turning point in my hockey career happened when I was recruited to play ice hockey for San Jose State University. The coach approached me and told me he would like it if I tried out for the team. I was currently going to West Valley College and didn't feel ready to go to a University yet like San Jose State. However, I tried out for the team and (of coarse) made it! Those years of playing for San Jose State were truly some of the best times of my life. I went from playing in a little-known adult hockey league to playing in the ACHA Div. II for my hometown college of San Jose State!

  1. Hello,

You did a great job of relating a concept from the textbook to your own personal experiences. Congratulations on making the San Jose State hockey team. Originally being from Canada, I am a big fan of hockey (Go Oilers Go!).

I have noticed while reading books or watching movies that there is almost a turning point which changes around the outcome of the movie. This is also usually true with the economy and the stock market- what goes down eventually comes back up.

  2. Congrats on making the SJSU hockey team! You shouldn't be scared about transferring to a University, I also transferred here from a junior college and I find the classes to be more enjoyable.

Your hockey post definitely shows a good example of how to describe a turning point, and now I fully understand what a turning point is.

Also Molly McMuffin, I definitely agree with you how in movies (also books) there are always turning points and then towards the end of the movie the action picks up again. Good job to the both of you.

  3. Wow that was really interesting about how you related your own turning point to the book. I can’t say that I have had a turning point in my career yet because I am still in class and trying to figure what I want to do. I think my turning point in my academics was when I got accepted to SJSU last spring. It’s the beginning of starting and building your passion and career. Thanks for sharing your story! Go hockey!

  4. Turning points influence our lives both positively and negatively. It is good for you that you experienced such a wonderful turning point on your hockey career. A major turning point in my life was when I quit my job in Japan. I had been working for the company for about 11 years, but there was no goal in the company for me to achieve, so I became a foreign college student in California. I really enjoyed living in California and was excited to be studying here because the practical lifestyle really works for me. Eventually, I got married and became a permanent resident in the US (another turning point for me). Now I work for a local community college as an instructional aide, and I think it has become my mission.
